Kurt began his service as a Combat Medic in the 1st Infantry Division before attending SFAS.

After earning his Green Beret he was assigned to 1st Special Forces Group as an 18C (Special Forces Engineer) serving on a Mountain team. Kurt participated in multiple operations throughout Central and South-East Asia.
